Scrap minimum wages...WTF?

The minimum wage should be scrapped because it has no effect on the redistribution of wealth, Bas Jacobs, professor of public finances and economic policy, tells Tuesday's Trouw.

Will someone tell this professor dude that minimum wages are not for 'redistribution of wealth' but for protecting workers from being being exploited.

I can't fix stupid

I have always liked this blog Off The Record for their tech related WTF-filled stories (another one is TheDailyWTF.com). Here is their latest entry. If you go back theirthier archives, it has enough meat to take away one week of productivity.

Penny wise, pound foolish

This is what I call penny wise, pound foolish. If the BTW (Value Added Tax in Dutch) on energy saving bulbs is reduced, would it not give more incentive to people to buy them? I see that the price difference between conventional bulbs and energy saving ones is quite remarkable in Holland, especially in large wattage bulbs (like 75 watt and 100 watt equivalence bulbs). If the BTW is reduced (or better, eliminated for a couple of years), it will give people more incentive, as the break even period will be reduced.

Lowering the btw tax on energy-saving light bulbs is a possibility but is not yet an option...

The minister was commenting on recommendations from her Lighting
Taskforce which says traditional light bulbs of 60 watts and above
should be phased out by 2011 and energy-saving versions be made much
cheaper through lower btw and a scrapping of the import tax.

Hillary cites RFK assassination in explaining why she's still in race

Hillary does it again...and the fears of Obama being assassinated are even more real

"I don't. Because again, I've been around long enough.
You know, my husband did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he
won the

California primary somewhere in the middle of June, right?
We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in **June** in
California. You know, I just don't understand it. You know, there's
lots of speculation about why it is. "

.......

And both actions, open a door wide into the soul of
somebody who seeks the highest office in this country, and through that
door shows something not merely troubling, but frightening.

Flevoland to build biggest Dutch wind park

This is a news I like. Around my house, I already see a lot of windmills. There is a farm of about 30 of them near the beach in Almere Poort and then there about 10-15 of them near my house (I can see most of them from the train).
...between 80 and a hundred 100-meter high turbines...
...supply 450,000 households with electricity...

Make a Comic

Found this cute website that lets you make a comic strip of your own with minimal effort. No idea of the copyright and legality of the use of the comics made this way, but WTF. Go ahead, make a comic and send it to me. The idea is nice but the implementation is something that could surely improve.

Bad Day For The RIAA: Two High Profile Cases Go Against RIAA

Techdirt: Bad Day For The RIAA: Two High Profile Cases Go Against RIAA
In the Tanya Andersen case (where the RIAA sued an innocent person), the court has awarded Andersen $108,000 in legal fees from the RIAA. You may recall that the RIAA had protested having to pay legal fees, which the judge smacked down.
.....
However, the much bigger news concerns the infamous Jammie Thomas case. As you'll recall, the RIAA won that case, even though it now admits that it said false things under oath... The judge has now admitted that he may have committed a "manifest error of law" in his jury instructions, and it sounds like he's going to order a new trial.

Nifty crime

Neat little trick, and he's got the money. Sadly, he's on CCTV footage and would not be difficult to nab him. In all probability, he's a customer of SCB, so they should be able to match the CCTV footage with those on their records.

Awesome, tiniest Bluetoth USB Adaptor

Its small, its functional and its (relatively) cheap. I'd love to buy this one, given the fact that I don't have bluetooth in my laptop and that I could use it in office too! Its sad I don;t live in the US.

Baggage handlers strike at Schiphol

Strike!! I don't like strikes, and they hurt a lot more people than those going on the strike. But maybe its the necessary last-step.

About 145,000 passengers may be facing delays today because of this strike. Read more about it here
